The term BDSM is known to most people, but many can't imagine anything more specific about it. Have you ever wondered "BDSM, what is it anyway?" and have no concrete idea about it? Wild fantasies about violence in dark basement dungeons often arise in people's minds. Lacquer and leather as well as whips and chains are also often part of such thoughts. Fascination and curiosity are as widespread as deterrence, but hardly anyone has an exact idea. In this article we explain the different BDSM terms and illuminate the topic from all sides.
What means BDSM?
Let's clarify the most important question first: what exactly does BDSM mean? BDSM is an abbreviation, which is actually composed of six English words, where they must be read in pairs. Bondage and Discipline, Dominance and Submission, Sadism and Masochism. Sadomasochism, or sadomaso for short, is also a common term which is often used. The practices of BDSM are varied and not everyone experiences this type of sex the same way. Some BDSM couples do not use BDSM toys, but only their bodies, words and imagination. A variety of inclinations exist that revolve around the sensation or infliction of pleasure pain. It is also important to know that BDSM is always consensual and done with mutual trust and consent. From so-called soft BDSM to sex bondage, i.e. bondage and lacing up to hard blows, which can go to the blood, everything is there. Read all about the different practices and varieties of BDSM.
Our great BDSM term collection
We explain all the terms on the topic one by one below so that you can get an accurate idea of them.
BDSM Bondage
BDSM bondage is one of the most widespread practices in the scene. A lot of time can pass while tying up your partner. Bondage is part of BDSM, like foreplay is to conventional sex. Often the bondage is very artistic in its execution. Ropes, chains or leather applications can be used. Japanese types of bondage, such as shibari, are also very popular.
SCC
This abbreviation describes consensual and is considered a guideline among all BDSMers. SSC means safe, sane and consensual and translates as safe, sane and consensual. In BDSM sex, it is important that everyone abides by this rule and can completely rely on each other.
Safeword & Slowword
Based on mutual trust and SSC, the safeword and slowword are agreed upon. In Sado Maso sex, pleasure pain is inflicted and sometimes begging and pleading is done. However, so that the dominant part knows when it is getting serious and he has to stop or when the game is getting too hard, there are the Safeword and the Slowword. These are often taken out of context, for example city names or foodstuffs. Cheese bread or Tokyo are so far removed from the subject that the message is clear. The Slowword is merely meant to signal that beatings or other tortures are too hard and that the intensity needs to be lowered a bit. The safeword, on the other hand, asks the dominant part to stop all actions immediately. It is therefore also called a stop word.
Dom Sub and Switch
These terms describe the different roles in sadomasosex. Dom and Sub are the two roles in SM sex. The dominant part is called Dom, Dominant, Top or with BDSM women also Domme or Domse. The top is a sadist and it gives him pleasure to exercise power over the counterpart. The masochist, on the other hand, enjoys submitting to the partner. The submissive part is called Submissive (short Sub) or also Bottom as well as BDSM Bottom or BDSM Sub. The submissive part in SM sex enjoys the BDSM practices performed on him or her. Switch, which means to change, describes exactly this. Switching between Dom and Sub gives some BDSM devotees a lot of pleasure. Some stick to one type (sub or dom) and others like to switch between roles (switch).
Sadomaso
Sadomaso is an abbreviation for sadomasochism, but the short form is often interpreted as a pejorative word in the scene and should rather be avoided accordingly. Sadomasochism, SM or BDSM are unproblematic to use as terms or abbreviations.
Domina or Latex Domina
The description latex dominatrix or dominatrix means a professional lady who has committed herself to services in the BDSM area. Whether this dominatrix really enjoys BDSM or even finds it good, is as with all professionals not to be said for sure.
SM Studio, BDSM Studio and Domina Studio
In these places it is possible to practice BDSM sex. Some of them are commercial, while others are private. Such studios are also available as a kind of apartment or apartment with a possibility to stay overnight. In the case of the dominatrix studio, of course, it can be assumed that it is commercial.
Spanking
In spanking, the submissive part is spanked on the butt or sometimes other parts of the body. Besides the bare hand, a sex whip or special toys (BDSM) can be used. A stick is suitable for the pleasure game, for example, wonderful and creates the longed-for pleasure pain. Who stands on special charms can also use BDSM underwear. This presents the buttocks advantageously and makes spanking even more interesting.
CBT - Cock and ball torture
The BDSM underwear is not only available for the BDSM woman, but also for the man. With CBT (cock and ball torture) you can use them wonderfully, because they leave just these areas free.
Session or play
Playing with your partner is also called play or session. These terms simply describe the activity itself and the duration of SM sex. Like any other form of sexual intercourse, BDSM sex is also temporary.
Fetish and kink
The words fetish and kink both have to do with lust, but they have different meanings. With a fetish, one speaks of lust that is triggered by objects or things or is tied to them. The best known fetish is, for example, the foot fetish. However, a fetish can be developed for all kinds of things or objects. Balloons, hair, carpets or paint are just a few examples. A kink, on the other hand, is something you're into. Like when your sexual partner pulls your hair or when animal noises are made.
Ring of O
The ring of O is a common piece of jewelry in the BDSM scene. A ring with an attached eyelet is worn either on the right hand or on the left hand. Worn on the right, submissiveness is shown, while on the left, the ring is worn by tops. Once upon a time, the piece of jewelry was considered a secret identifier and was more of an insider. Nowadays, this is no longer quite so secret.
Vanillas
Vanillas are the names given to those who do not identify with BDSM and prefer to stick to good old flower sex. Similar to how in Harry Potter the non-magicians are called muggles, in the BDSM scene the non-BDSMers are called vanillas.
BDSM anal
BDSM anal is similar to other sex techniques depending on taste. Some like it, but for others the rear entrance is taboo. Pegging with a strap on is however widespread in the scene and is more popular than some might think.
Soft BDSM
Soft BDSM is probably a term which does not seem right in the minds of many people. But of course BDSM is very diverse and can be performed in different degrees of hardness. Where exactly the boundaries lie is not clearly defined, because the sensation of each person is individual and can not be categorized. In general, however, soft BDSM means a soft and light kind of BDSM. A BDSM set for beginners, for example, is suitable for Soft BDSM and can be purchased inexpensively to try it out.
Sadomaso clinic
The clinic games are very popular in the scene with some. A clinic dominatrix with Sadomaso mask makes so some people really hot. This is one of many imaginative game types of BDSM. The BDSM clinic game type is of course not a must, at this point numerous role plays are possible.
How dangerous is BDSM
The question of whether BDSM is dangerous naturally arises immediately when one reads about bondage games, pleasure pain and submission. The SSC code of honor has a great importance among BDSMers and usually it is followed. No one is inflicted pain against his or her will and no rapes take place. Mutual consent, the safeword and the slowword are instruments that ensure that everyone is comfortable with it. Such a relationship between two people requires courage and trust. Of course, there is always the possibility of falling for a black sheep. In such a case, someone who has completely surrendered himself naturally risks a lot. Not only physical integrity, but also mental health can suffer from such an encounter. Therefore, it is important for every submissive to look carefully at the Dom and choose carefully.
